4566 Boiler Lift

Colin Harsley was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time on Wednesday 23rd August and managed to catch the 4566's boiler lift on camera. As the only person present with a camera this is an exclusive record of the proceedings.

The chassis had been shunted round to the boilershop...

With the ashpan secure it's up...

...and lowered...

...slowly...

...between the frames.

The smokebox is aligned with the saddle...

...then the firebox end finally lowered into place.

A good days work!

...then moved to the back of the shop...

...while the cladding is attended to where it clears the motion bracket...

...and the hopper new ashpan adjusted to fit.
