Many years ago The Association successfully
commissioned the production of a batch of
GW pattern toilet pans. These were required
to replace damaged or missing pans in the
running sets and thus ensure that on-train
toilet facilities were available for the travelling public, as well as providing spares for carriages awaiting restoration.
More recently the Association attempted to
repeat the exercise and commission a batch
of GW corner washbasins. Originally
Armitage Shanks agreed to manufacture the
moulds and produce a batch of washbasins.
Subsequently they withdrew their offer and as
no other manufacturer could be found to
undertake the work the project was put on
indefinite hold. There has, however, been a
recent development.
The good news is that a manufacturer,
Ceramic Design UK Ltd, has offered to
undertake the work. The bad news is that it
will be expensive but this is an
opportunity we cannot turn down.
Regrettably many of the older manufacturing
skills are fast disappearing from the UK.
