9103 Restoration - 2011-13
Details of our ongoing restoration work throughout 2011 through to 2013. The previous years restoration progress can be viewed at:
|
July 2013 |
9103 is now virtually complete and is standing outside the paintshop in all it's glory!
The only outstanding job is the fitting of draft excluders to the door jambs. After that it will go to Kidderminster for a fitness to run exam and to Bridgnorth to be weighed and then it will be available for traffic!
We are arranging a special train to mark the completion of 9103, this will be on Wednesday 18th September 2013 (not the 17th as reviously shown). Tickets will be £12.50 (£10.00 concessions) available via info@gw-svr-a.org.uk

The lining and lettering on the saloon side is now complete and varnishing started. The Corridor side will be started shortly.

Both 650 and 9103 will be open for the forthcoming Peep Behind The Scenes event on 20th July.

October 2012 |
9103 entered Kidderminster at the end
of July to refit the bogies and complete the
removal of asbestos from the steam heat
pipe, for vacuum cylinder overhaul and
painting underneath above the bogies.

|
August 2011 |
Completed bogie number one with 27270 behind which is also having a bogie overhaul.
The second bogie is now being re-assembled with only a small amount of re-bushing outstanding. |
|
Inside the shed at Kidderminster we have now completed fitting all the door stops and have begun fitting the external door handles ensuring the slam locks work successfully - not too straightforward!
Our sales stand 1399 has had an emergency repair to fix a leak and with the roof repainted it is in undercoat and leak-free.
Work should soon re-start on 650 so we would appreciate any help you're able to give.

June 2011 |
The bogies were moved outside Kidderminster Works to allow 26880 into the paint shop.
9103's finished bogie...
...the one we are working on. |

Also at Kidderminster... the completed auto trailer 238 going to the Dean Forest on behalf
of Mike Little and named Chaffinch the name it would have had if the
continued with the names. There's further info on the SVR News page.

May 2011 |
The first bogie is now virtually fully re-assembled - with just split pins and tie bars to complete.
The second bogie is partially dismantled and cleaning down is progressing well with the centre casting and top of the bolsters cleaned. The brake rigging is off and being cleaned with rebushing is about to begin. Soon it will be lifted off its wheels.
Meanwhile inside the shed at Kidderminster there's good progress with the end fittings with only the North End Weymouth Quay plate and 30 tons weight letters remaining to fit. Next the door stops and the door external handles will be fitted.

April 2011 |
The first bogie is now fully painted and begining to be re-assembled. The only painting remaining is the brake hanger links which Keith is bushing beforehand. |

January 2011 |
We are making good progress on the first bogie. Most of the parts have now been disassembled, cleaned off and painted in primer and partially in black. Keith is working on reaming the brake hanger bushes.
9103 is now dry in the Carriage Shed. The door stops are back at Bewdley for painting.
The next working party on the bogies will be on Wednesday 23rd February.
Many of the stripped smaller parts are cleaned, primed and painted in their first coat of chassis black.

Here is the centre casting from the north end bogie - upside down!
The working party on 16th February saw a good team of five of us at work where most of the initial cleaning was complete. Once we have all the parts painted it will come off the wheels for the final cleaning. |
